• Underground dump trucks are used in underground mining projects for high production and low cost hauling as underground dump trucks can carry 30 to 55 tonnes in one go.
• Hi rail dump trucks are used on highway and railway maintenance and construction. Hi rail dump trucks are fitted with rail wheels that enable transportation both on and off railway tracks.

Dump trucks are available for hire in various sizes. The most common sized articulated dump trucks available range from 10 to 40 tonne models, and rigid rear dump trucks range from 30 to 400 tonne models.

Dump truck hire rates are dependent on the type of dump truck, wet or dry hire, and volume of loose materials needing to be transported. Dry hire of articulated dump trucks cost $50 per hour for 10 tonne models, $170 per hour for 30 tonne models, and $400 per hour plus for 40+ tonne models. Hire of smaller rigid rear dump trucks without maintenance and mobilisation can cost over $14,000 per month. Additionally, there may be mobilisation and demobilisation fees, standby rates, and variable rates.
