The term 'Wet Hire' and ‘Self Performing Contractor’ is practically interchangeable in NSW but can mean different things depending on the site, and the head contractor running the project.
Many of our suppliers in Sydney offer both, but there are a number of suppliers listed above that only offer dry hire or wet hire exclusively. It's important to note your preference when posting a job on the platform, or when talking to a supplier about it. Being upfront about this in the request will ensure the most relevant result.
In New South Wales, any individual operating an excavator must hold a proof of competency or ticket and must ensure that the PCBU (person conducting business undertaking) supervising the job has viewed and approved these documents.
Excavator operator licences are divided into three classes: non-slewing (basic), slewing (intermediate), and slewing mobile crane (advanced). A non-slewing licence allows the operator to operate excavators without the ability to rotate the boom, while a slewing licence provides the operator with the ability to operate excavators with a rotating boom.
The advanced licence permits the operator to operate excavators with an elevated work platform or moveable boom. Consult Safework Australia for more details.
Many of our excavator hire suppliers are based in Western Sydney due to the larger depot-sized plots of land needed to house and maintain their fleet.
