The difference between aluminium and steel fencing products?
When choosing the right perimeter security for your site, it is important to make sure that your equipment will be made from the best materials available. Many fencing companies will offer a choice between aluminium and steel. So which is better?
A strong, sturdy fence is necessary when your site. Steel and aluminium fencing may look similar but the benefits of steel far outweigh aluminium. Steel provides both the strength and security that aluminium can’t offer. The economical appeal of aluminium is often outshone by the inadequate level of protection it offers.
While aluminium has become popular due to its corrosion resistance and weight, steel is a stronger alternative. When combined with hot dipped galvanising and powder coating, a steel product will far outlast an aluminium gate or fence as it is far more resistant to impact.
While steel is heavier than aluminium, aluminium can be more resistant to rust. However, this is easily overcome with galvanised and powder coated steel products.
In terms of cost, while you may be able to source cheap aluminium alternatives, they will not be able to offer the level of protection required for even a low risk site.
Shipping costs for aluminium are typically cheaper since the fence or gates will weigh less. So if shipping costs are your main concern, aluminium may be a better choice. However, while you may save money during this part of the process, be sure to consider the ongoing costs of having a fence or gate that doesn’t do its job properly. Is it worth having to replace the fence or gate much sooner, or having to worry about intrusions?
When the performance of steel and aluminium are compared, steel fencing and gates provide far better protection that aluminium products can offer.
