A1 Group - Laying Down the Future.
In 2001 Leigh Rees started a small business called A1 Asphalting P/L employing 6 people. In 2006 due to industry demand in our area, Leigh erected his own Asphalt plant in Drouin and within 12 months the business grew to employing 44 people.

From 2008 Leigh created the A1 Group and diversified into all forms of civil construction. With an Asphalt Plant in Morwell and another coming soon to Wonthaggi, we also have A1 Sand Supplies operating out our quarry in Rosedale. A1 Gippsland Septic Tanks and Concrete Products has branches in Drouin and Bairnsdale.

Today we are proud to be a part of his vision and drive that allow the A1 Group of Companies to offer quality services to the civil construction industry.

A1 Civil obtained its Certification for Prequalification R1 rating for Vic Roads in 2016 for Civil (Road & Bridge) Construction Contracts.

A1 CIVIL PTY LTD

With a combined 57 years’ experience in the Civil Construction Industry, Leigh Rees, together with Kim McGill commenced the operation of A1 Civil in October 2012. In the first 12 months of operation, A1 Civil had successfully tendered and completed a number of contracts both locally and in the metropolitan area.

Specialising in road and car park pavement works, the company already has a history of civil and associated works for Vic Roads, Municipal Councils such as Frankston City Council, Casey City Council and Baw Baw Shire Council, V-Line and major private sector building companies. 

In 2014 A1 Civil was accredited with the Civil Contractors Federation under their Civil Construction Management Code, which is based on the more pertinent elements of Quality Assurance (ISO 9001-2008), Occupational Health and Safety (AS 4801-2001) and Environmental Management (ISO 14001-2004). These processes are used to ensure the appropriate planning of all operations. This is demonstrated in the creation of a Project Management Plan which is developed for each individual project.

A1 ASPHALTING PTY LTD

A1 Asphalting business was sold in 2008, James Rees (Leigh’s son) and his crew continued working for Pioneer Road Services, Fulton Hogan and then later with Services South East. In 2011 James created a new business called Gippsland Pavement Services P/L (GPS Asphalting).

Supplying crew and plant hire to Boral and Fulton Hogan for most of 2011, GPS Asphalting continued to expand and establish its own customer base for private and commercial works. 

On the 1st July 2013 GPS Asphalting changed its name to A1 Asphalting Pty Ltd.

Now employing around 45 employees A1 Asphalting has built up a solid reputation amongst its peers for reliability and quality of work.

A1 CONCRETE & ASPHALT RECYCLING

A1 Concrete/Asphalt Recycling commenced in 2008, the recycling side of our business specializes in the recycling of construction and demolition materials ie: concrete, bricks, roof tiles, asphalt etc. These waste products were once routinely shipped to landfills for disposal.

The ability to recycle these materials is now a more attractive option in this age of greater environmental awareness.
