We provide government, local construction businesses and builders with the highest quality ready mix concrete supplies, backed up by technical expertise and exceptional customer service, on and off site.
For almost 60 years, Direct Mix Concrete has partnered with businesses to successfully complete the most technically challenging projects, from the construction of concrete bridges on the Northern Expressway through to submerged concrete structures at locks along the Murray River. The low shrinkage aggregate, sourced from our own quarries and used in all of our ready mix concrete supplies, has become an imperative for these major projects.

PROUD TO BE ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY
Southern Quarries Pty Ltd and Direct Mix Concrete are committed to fostering a sustainable future. From energy efficient lighting to water recycling and land recovery, our processes minimise our impact on the environment. Through positive business partnerships, we aim to support construction projects that benefit our community environmentally, socially and economically.
Driving Sustainability
With an eye on the future, we have initiated the following processes, operations, and facilities to minimise our impact on the environment:
Water
Rainwater is captured, stored and used at all facilities
Waste water is recycled through settlement ponds and used at all concrete plants, including for vehicle wheel wash
We use dry produced, manufactured sand in our concrete and supply dry screened natural sand from our Peninsula Quarries sand mine at Price. These important measures eliminate the need for washing sand with water, and avoid associated environmental impacts such as silt dams.
We use environmentally safe Polo Citrus products, made from natural orange oil, for dust suppression at our crushing plant at Sellicks Hill, saving thousands of litres of water per year.
Oil, Fuel and Energy
Our energy efficient machinery uses alternative fuels such as Adblue
Used oil is collected for professional recycling by a third party
We use energy efficient lighting in our offices.
Land Recovery
We have purchased and revegetated more than 300 acres of buffer land surrounding the Sellicks Hill Quarry
Our Sellicks Hill and Price Quarries have been revegetated with native plants.
Community and Compliance
We protect our local environment and community by ensuring all vehicles used at our quarries enter a wheel wash facility, which uses recycled water to minimise ‘drag out’ of dirt and mud onto public roads.
We comply with all relevant legislation, standards and codes of practice.
