About Humphries
Locally and Family Grown
The locally owned and family operated company Humphries Pty Ltd had its beginnings in the 60s when Barry Humphries bought one of the five chopper harvesters delivered to the area. Contracting out his services to sugar cane farmers in the harvest, Barry purchased his first truck in the 70s, a 1962 International for contract cartage in the off-season.
Over the next decade, Barry bought more trucks for contact cartage and in 1982 he sold his harvesting and carting machinery to start Humphries and branch solely into trucking. The sons joined in the business so that, from its humble beginning, Barry and his family built the company to what it is today. Humphries Pty Ltd is now a major transport and earthmoving company, with up to 40 staff and numerous vehicles and machines including tandem trucks, truck and dogs, semi tippers, side tippers, low loader floats , stag tippers, loaders , excavator, bobcat and grader.
Not only does Humphries have a renowned reputation for quality and service but they have also played an integral role in the local Whitsundays community, sponsoring and donating money to numerous sporting groups and not for profit organisations and events, such as Brahman’s Rugby, Proserpine Bowls Club, Proserpine Golf Days, Proserpine Sugar Mill, Farmers' days, Whitsunday-based Bullaramas, The Proserpine Show, P.A.T.C.H, local schools and Proserpine Lions Club of which Barry has been a member since 1968.
