Northern Pavement Consultants (NPC) is a practice of civil engineering professionals, established in 1999 specialising in pavement engineering and technology. We currently provide a range of pavement testing and design services for Main Roads, Local Authorities, Civil Engineering Consultancies and other agencies responsible for the design, construction and maintenance of roads, airports and heavy duty pavements. 

Our Professional Staff have previous working experience in both civil engineering consultancies and the Queensland Department of Main Roads and therefore bring together a broad range of experience and capabilities.

VISUAL CONDITION SURVEYS

This involves the identification, measurement and recording of pavement and surfacing visual defects along a section of road, then categorising the severity and extent of the defects. This is useful within a project level assessment, to provide insight into the modes of deterioration of the pavement. A network level assessment can be utilised within a pavement management system for verification of deterioration rates. This data may form the basis for programming future maintenance and rehabilitation works. 

LASER PROFILOMETER AND DIGITAL IMAGING SURVEY

The automated collection of road condition data in conjunction with a systemised pavement management methodology, is a rapid and objective means of rating road conditions within a network. The data may also be used to assess the quality of new works and its compliance with specification requirements. The data that can be collected with our Network Survey Vehicle (NSV) includes: 

• Roughness (longitudinal profile)  

• Rutting (transverse profile)  

• Texture Depth (macro texture)
