Simon National Carriers

Officially incorporated in 1973, Simon National Carriers is amongst the largest privately owned national freight companies operating in Australia. What we are today is a product of our proud history.

Our origins date back to 1926, when Morgan Hugh Simon established Simon Pty Ltd, a family operation specialising in timber and hardware. The development of a timber treatment and electric pole supply division in 1960 prompted the company’s move into the transport industry.

In 1966, we purchased our first truck to carry poles from the Northern Rivers of New South Wales to Toowoomba for termite resistant treatment, and then on to western Queensland for the construction of power lines to properties being connected for the first time. Soon after, we experienced difficulties shipping our products to Darwin, so we stepped up to the challenge and took our first load of timber by road. We may not have realised it at the time, but this trip represented the very early beginnings of Simon National Carriers.

Our services to Darwin were soon in demand and over the next five years, we developed services from Brisbane, Sydney and Toowoomba to the Northern Territory. The 1980’s saw Simon National Carriers further expand, offering customers a true national network of transport services. This resulted in new branches in Townsville and Perth and integrated transport provision through a strong network of local agents in regional areas.

One of the key factors in our early success was our ability to appreciate exactly what our customers were looking for. The hardware division of Simon Pty Ltd was at the receiving end of transport services and what we learnt from their experience informs the very basis of our operations today.

Over the years, our customers have continued to change, grow and evolve. We continue to respond to their ever-changing needs – whether it’s through the development of our analysis and reporting systems, the evolution of our rail services or our commitment to providing the very best value for money the industry has to offer. When our customers grow, we grow with them.

Today, Simon National Carriers continues to provide specialised interstate transport services and offers customers a diverse range of capabilities in warehousing, project logistics and dedicated fleet in all areas of Australia and New Zealand. The company is wholly owned by the Simon family.
