Septic tank and soakage trenches are used for the first stage of the sewage treatment process in areas where no sewerage system is available.

A secondary treatment system is then necessary to complete the treatment process. This can include aerobic systems, Advanced Enviro-Septic and soakage.

Essentially the septic system acts to remove, store and breakdown the solids that are carried with the wastewater from your home or business premises. The greywater is usually then separated and treated separately then discharged to the common effluent system if available or dealt with through an onsite wastewater treatment system.

The tank can be made from a range of materials, but more often than not they are made from concrete. This part of your septic system requires regular maintenance every few years to remove remnant solids.

Regular pumping is required to prevent the solids from overflowing into the greywater treatment area or into your yard. Solids are generally broken down through an anaerobic system, and are therefore the most likely to cause a bad odour.

South Coast Excavations can assist you to choose the right septic tank for your wastewater system. As well as carrying out the excavations, we can also assist with design, approval and also installation.

Supplementing the septic tank you will need an onsite wastewater system which can include, for primary treated effluent
