We have ideally located company owned transport depots in Perth and Kalgoorlie.
Our Perth depot is located in the transport hub of Kewdale on over 13,000 square metres of land and is included in the main roads double road train route. Our Kewdale depot is equipped with modern and clean container handling and storage facilities, and provides safe and secure internal and external freight storage solutions in Perth. Our Kalgoorlie depot acts as a distribution centre for major clients and consists of 9,000 square metres of hardstand and 1200 square metres of undercover warehouse space. With “Street to Street” access it is ideally designed to take advantage of main roads triple road train route.
We run at least two road trains daily to Kalgoorlie which combined with our local delivery fleet of flat tops, utes and forklifts means that we can provide a consistent reliable daily delivery service for our Goldfields clients. All of our maintenance is done in our own workshop which is located at our Perth transport facility. Our extensive preventative maintenance program reduces costs to our operation and our customers with one of the main benefits being reduced break downs.
The History of Sykes Transport
The origins of our general road freight transport company date back to 1959 when the founder, Roger Sykes, commenced trucking operations in Geelong, Victoria. At the time, local deliveries were carried out in a utility and as the business expanded more staff were employed and by 1962 a four tonne tray truck had been purchased. In 1963 a semi-trailer was added to the transport fleet, which then consisted of four vehicles, and the first interstate load was carried.
Steady expansion followed and by 1973 ten vehicles were in operation, mostly on interstate runs in Geelong. In 1981 the business was incorporated and a company depot in Perth was established. In 1998, for economic reasons, most of the road interstate transport operations ceased and David Sykes took over as C.E.O. The company has progressed rapidly since then.
